Should we eliminate coal as an energy source for making electricity? Most definitely not. Coal itself generates almost half our nation's energy. It can be turned into many different products that we need a nd use today. There are many states that mine coal and West Virginia is a main leader in his industry. Unfortunately, there are many downsides to mining this mineral. We use it thousands of times faster than it is produced because it is a nonrenewable source of energy. There is surface minig and underground mining. Even tough great amounts of land are bieng disturbed for surface minig, they are now reclaiming the land they tore up and are reclaiming it to help our damaged environment. Underground mining is very dangerous for the miners, as not only are the areas unsafe, but they can develop lung disease if breathed too much. That righ there is a main controversy of coal; it is endangering many lives daily. Coal has been turned into so many different uses such as heating and living space. Our country has been mining this product soo much over the years and we have used it, so we have to maintain this energy. New technologies are being discovered to help coal be burned in cleaner, healthier ways. Industries are trying to find a way to lessen the amount of harmful emmisions that are given off. Our nation also has many back-up plans of energy, but I believe one day there will be a grand discovery of a way for coal to be safer and better. Our various energy sources are great to have, and I think we have come quite far with coal by our side and we should just keep on going.
